For Windows 7 machines - type the following at an elevated command prompt, (omitting the square brackets) in order to scan for errors.
sfc /scannow /offbootdir=[DRIVELETTER]:\ /offwindir=[DRIVELETTER]:\windows
(sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offiwndir=c:\windows)
